Jefferson County Clerk of Court Office

The Jefferson County Clerk of Court is the state-court records office for Jefferson Combined Court. It is not the same office as the elected Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder. Court records, dockets, probate case files, divorce case files, criminal case files, traffic case files, and court-certified copies are maintained through the Colorado Judicial Branch. The Jefferson County Clerk of Court Office page is the primary court source for records counter hours, the record request email, court customer-service rules, interpreter contacts, and transcript links.

What Jefferson County Clerk Records Cover

The Clerk of Court handles record access for District Court and County Court case files at Jefferson Combined Court. That includes civil, criminal, domestic relations, probate, juvenile, traffic, small claims, protection order, and appeal records when public access is allowed. The clerk's office also supports records and research requests, copy production, certification, mail requests, customer-service email, and the public records counter.

  • Court copies and certified or exemplified court documents.
  • Registers of action, dispositions, sentence orders, judgments, decrees, petitions, and orders where public.
  • Records research requests submitted by form, email, mail, or in person.
  • Drop-box filing intake, with filings not accepted by email.
  • Identity checks for suppressed, juvenile, probate, or protected records when required.

The elected Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder is separate. That office records public documents and issues marriage and civil union licenses, while the Clerk of Court keeps case records. Requests for deeds, liens, plats, UCC filings, or marriage licenses should not be sent to the court clerk unless the record is part of a court case.

This split is important for search strategy. A divorce decree, criminal disposition, probate letter, protection order, or civil judgment is a court record. A marriage license, deed, lien, plat, UCC filing, or recorded certificate is a county recording record. The names sound similar, but the request channels, fees, search portals, and certification rules are different. Sending a court request to the recording office can delay a time-sensitive certified-copy need.

Request Certified Jefferson County Court Copies

Certified copies are used when a court document must carry official authentication. Common Jefferson County certified-copy requests include divorce decrees, disposition and sentence orders, probate letters, civil judgments, protection orders, and registers of action. A portal result or docket printout is not the same as a certified record. Use the court record request process when the copy must be filed with an agency, used in another court, or relied on for a legal transaction.

  1. Identify the case number, case type, filing year, party names, and Jefferson County as the court location. Use docket search first if the case number is unknown.
  2. Open the Judicial Branch record/document request form and choose the exact document type, such as Divorce Decree, Complaint/Information, Disposition/Sentence Order, Letters, Will, or Register of Action.
  3. Submit the request online, email jeffcorecordrequest@judicial.state.co.us, mail the request, or appear at the records counter during open hours.
  4. Pay the copy, certification, search, retrieval, or research charges assessed by the clerk. Suppressed or protected files may require photo ID or a court order.
  5. Use mail or pickup instructions from the court response. The form says responses are provided within three business days unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Use that county recording search for recorded instruments, while court case documents remain with the state-court Clerk of Court.

The manifest includes the Jefferson County land and marriage records portal for this page.

Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder land records portal

The portal is useful for recorded documents and marriage records, but it is not the source for District Court case files.

The county records search instructions recommend the Real Estate tab, Search Real Estate Index, General Search, and Combined Name Search for recorded-document work. Party names are commonly entered in last-name, first-name format. Those fields do not search court case pleadings or court orders. For case events, use Judicial Branch docket search. For documents, use the court record request form or the Jefferson County records email.

Mail, Email, and Drop Box Rules

Jefferson County court filings may be mailed or left in the atrium drop box, but the court does not accept filings by email. The drop box is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the main atrium. Filings left before business opens are date-stamped for the previous business day. Incomplete filings, filings without payment, and filings without fee-waiver paperwork are returned. Cash must not be placed in the drop box.

Email is for customer-service inquiries and records requests, not for filing new pleadings. The Clerk of Court front counter is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon. The records counter is narrower: Monday through Thursday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and closed on Friday. Collections, jury, interpreter, accessibility, transcript, and virtual courtroom links are posted through Jefferson County's Judicial Branch pages.

Phone service is separate from in-person counter access. The court lists phone hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and says voicemail is usually returned within 24 to 48 business hours unless a message says otherwise.

Note: Use the county Clerk and Recorder for marriage or recorded-document searches, and use the Clerk of Court for court-certified case documents.
